HRH Prince Daniel's speech at the inauguration of this years sculpture at Djurgården

Royal Djurgården, Stockholm

(The spoken version shall take precedence)

Minister,
Excellency,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear friends and family, and dearest Estelle

The Inner Flow of Life is the name of this magnificent work of art by the talented artist Giuseppe Penone. We are incredibly honoured that you accepted our invitation to create a sculpture for the Princess Estelle Sculpture Park.

More than 200 years ago, the idea to make Rosendal a place for art was born. It was King Karl XIV Johan, the first of the Bernadotte dynasty, who wanted to create a space to delight and inspire the people of Stockholm.

Gates and fences were removed, making Djurgården and Rosendal accessible to everyone. This tradition has continued through the years. Today, it is King Carl XVI Gustaf who, through his interest, and through us and the Princess Estelle Cultural Foundation, continues the tradition of promoting art, now through site-specific sculptures by world-leading artists.

This is the fifth permanent work in the Princess Estelle Sculpture Park, and we are very pleased that visitors here at Djurgården, and for generations to come, can enjoy this masterpiece: The Inner Flow of Life.

I believe that every generation has a responsibility to leave a mark of its time for future generations — the Princess Estelle Sculpture Park is our contribution to the early 21st century.

Thank you, Giuseppe Penone. And thank you, Sara, Katarina, Johan, the board, partners, donors, and everyone who are making this possible!
