HRH The Crown Princess' speech at Asian University for Women (AUW)

Chattogram, Bangladesh

(The spoken version shall take precedence)

Dear students,
Vice Chancellor,
Faculty members,
Your Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for having the privilege to meet and interact with all of you!

It is a great joy to stand before you today at this university for women. Here you gain knowledge and acquire the tools to meet future challenges. But even more importantly: your education gives you the opportunity to fulfil your dreams.

Education is not just facts and numbers; it empowers you to shape your own future. Research shows that education for women is a powerful catalyst for positive change, promoting gender equality and improving health. It also contributes to the overall development and well-being of families, communities, and societies. Recognizing and investing in the education of women is in other words crucial for building a more sustainable world.

Dear students,

You have been given the opportunity to pursue university-level studies. An opportunity that should be accessible to all women around the world.

When you graduate, I would like to encourage you to work towards a more inclusive society. Invest in the education and well-being of children – especially girls who face a steeper uphill climb. Moreover, support and work with other women. Together you are a force that can move mountains.

And above all: Never lose faith in yourself! With your drive, determination, and education, I place great hope in you as future changemakers. I am confident that you will shape policies, challenge norms, and inspire others to follow in your footsteps.

Thank you all so much!
