HM The Queen's speech at a concert in connection with The Queen's 80th birthday
Stockholm
(The spoken version shall take precedence)
Your Majesty, Your Royal Highnesses,
Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear friends
For a long time I have had a dream to do something in connection to my birthday for all those who have been active on the boards of my six foundations:
- World Childhood foundation,
- Mentor Foundation,
- Stiftelsen Silviahemmet,
- Care about the Children,
- Drottning Silvias stiftelse för forskning och utbildning,
- Stiftelsen Drottning Silvias Jubileumsfond.
And now you are all gathered in this beautiful concert hall. I am so happy to see you here tonight!
Five of these foundations are working with making the world a better place for our children and young people – our future.
The foundation, Silviahemmet, is focused on dementia and Alzheimer, a subject that also is, as you all know, very close to my heart.
It is hard work to create, build and maintain a sustainable foundation. I know and I appreciate all the effort that you have put down all these years to make these organizations what they are today. I am so proud and thankful!
I could stand here all evening and talk about memories of our work together. About all the times it felt difficult and maybe even impossible, when it felt like we had a steep hill to climb. But I would also like to talk about, how we have given each other the strength to carry on - through the belief in the importance of continuing this meaningful work. And, most importantly, about the results we have achieved! That would take the whole evening!
Lastly, let me express my warmest thanks to Lilla Akademien, for enabling me to thank all of you through a beautiful concert.
After the concert HM the King and I are happy to invite you to a drink.
I am very much looking forward to this evening! Thank you!
