HM The King's opening speech at Estonia-Sweden Business Forum

Tallinn, Estonia

(The spoken version shall take precedence)

Mr. President,
Ministers,
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure to open Estonia-Sweden Business Forum today. It was interesting to learn that the venue used to serve as the Tallinn City Central Power Station in the early 1900s.

I am delighted to be here with this distinguished Swedish business delegation and to meet with the prominent Estonian business community. We have been received with such warmth here in Tallinn.

It is a pleasure to see that since our last State Visit here in 1992 our bilateral relationship has deepened. Today, Sweden and Estonia are close partners in both the Nordic-Baltic context, in Europe and globally. We also share common values such as democracy, rule of law, and openness. Together, we are working closely to support Ukraine in these difficult times.

Estonia and Sweden are also partners when it comes to trade and investments. We both have innovative companies at the forefront, delivering high-tech solutions for the future.

In a world with growing uncertainty and climate crisis, you as business leaders can contribute with solutions for a more sustainable future. Today’s common challenges offer tremendous opportunities for our companies and for our societies.

With these words, I wish you a productive day making new connections and exchanging ideas. I sincerely hope that this Forum shall stimulate further cooperation in many areas, to the mutual benefit of Estonia and Sweden.
