Environment and nature

The King is deeply involved in issues related to the environment and nature. He has a wide range of knowledge in both these areas. The King has taken the initiative for the Royal Colloquium, an international environmental symposium held in Sweden with participants invited from various parts of the world.

Since 1988, the King has been the Chairman of the Swedish organisation of the World Wildlife Fund, WWF.

The Scout Movement

Since his childhood, the King has participated in various scout activities both in Sweden and abroad. The King is honorary Chairman of the Scouts and since 1977 he has been honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation. External link, opens in new window.

In recent years, the King has participated in the Royal Technology Mission directed by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA. The aim has been to study technological and industrial knowledge and stimulate collaboration within these areas, in countries such as the Czech Republic, China, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, South Korea, South Africa, Brazil and India.
