The Nobel Foundation is a private foundation that was established in 1900 based on Alfred Nobel's will and the directions set out therein. The primary aim of the foundation is to ensure that the intentions of Nobel's will are followed. The foundation is responsible for administering Nobel's wealth in such a way that the financial basis for the Nobel Prizes is secured from a long-term perspective, and for guaranteeing the independence of the Nobel Prize-awarding institutions in their work to select laureates.
