On Thursday 20 August, The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel met representatives from Visita, the industry and employer organisation for the Swedish tourism industry.
The Swedish tourism industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many hotels and conference facilities have no visitors, restaurants have experienced a dramatic drop in income, and amusement parks have been unable to open.
During the visit, which took place at Scandic's Downtown Camper hotel in central Stockholm, The Crown Princess Couple met Visita's CEO Jonas Siljhammar, who described how the pandemic has affected the industry as a whole. Peter Jangbratt and Erica Åberg from Scandic Hotels spoke about the challenges facing the hotel and conference industry. PG Nilsson from Svenska Brasserier concluded the meeting with information about the situation for the restaurant industry.
The Royal Family are keen to show their support for the initiatives being carried out by society to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Royal Family are staying informed about how the pandemic is affecting Sweden via discussions, digital meetings and visits.
These visits are planned based on current recommendations, and every effort is being made not to take up time and resources unnecessarily.
