On Wednesday 5 February, The Crown Princess attended the Folk & Kultur convention in Eskilstuna as the event's patron.

The convention brings together the public and private sectors, the media, associations, academia and citizens to highlight the importance of art and culture within the development of democracy and society.

The convention was held for the third year in a row, and is a national forum for cultural policy in Sweden and the Nordic region. This year, The Crown Princess was the patron of the conference. During the day, she gave a speech in which she said:

"In a time when we are offered simple answers, we need to defend our ability to ask questions.

"Art, education and culture strengthen this ability. They help us to understand ourselves – and others.

"This is precisely why it is so important that everyone has this opportunity. No matter where in the country they live, how old they are or where they come from."
