HM The King's speech at official lunch, Expo 2025 Osaka
Osaka, Japan
(The spoken word shall take precedence)
Ministers,
Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,
First, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for this lovely lunch, hosted by Expo 2025 Osaka!
55 years ago, I attended the World Expo in Osaka, and I am one of the lucky few to also have been given the opportunity to visit Expo 2025 - in the same city! I also participated in the 1985 World Expo held in Tsukuba. However, I am not the only one in my family who has been to the World Expo in Japan. The Crown Princess attended this global exhibition in Aichi 2005.
Each time, we have been impressed by how well you organise these types of events. The level of planning, coordination, and hospitality reflects your deep commitment to excellence.
I look forward to seeing the Swedish photo exhibition: Expo Osaka 1970 - Expo Osaka 2025, this afternoon. It will bring back wonderful memories!
Dear guests,
The longstanding and well-developed ties between Japan and Sweden reflect a history of meaningful collaboration. Our countries established diplomatic relations in 1868. Her Majesty the Queen and I fondly remember celebrating the 150th anniversary in 2018 here in Japan.
The relationship between Sweden and Japan is characterised by mutual curiosity and appreciation. Through our long partnership in trade and cooperation, Japan and Sweden have built a close and solid friendship. At the Business Summit later this afternoon, we will explore how we can strengthen our ties even further.
Once again, let me warmly thank you for this delightful and enjoyable lunch!
