The King presents scholarships to young leaders

On Thursday 18 November, The King presented Compass Rose Scholarships to seven young people who have demonstrated courage, consideration and energy in their leadership. During the ceremony, young leaders who have completed Value-Based Leadership training also received diplomas from The King.

The ceremony was arranged by The King's Young Leadership Foundation, and took place in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace. The King opened the ceremony with a speech, in which he said:

The world needs more leaders in both large and small contexts – leaders who are rooted in strong values, and who allow themselves to be guided by their values.

To all you young people who are here today to receive your diplomas and scholarships: Thank you for spreading good values and value-based leadership to others. This is needed. You are needed!

Presentation of scholarships and diplomas

During the ceremony, The King also presented the Compass Rose Scholarship to seven leaders under the age of 25 who have demonstrated courage, consideration and energy in their leadership. The scholarship amount is 50,000 kronor, to be used for personal leadership development. The Young Leadership Foundation operates the scholarship programme.

Due to the pandemic, The King also presented the 2020 scholarships during the ceremony.

The King also presented diplomas to almost 150 young people who completed the Value-Based Leadership course during 2019 and 2020. The training is arranged by the Scouts and the Scouts' Folk High School, with the support of the Young Leadership Foundation.

Young Leadership

The Young Leadership Foundation was a gift to The King on his 60th birthday, at the initiative of the Scouts. The foundation works to highlight young leaders with good value-based leadership skills. The foundation's values are based on the values of the Scout Movement, and courage, consideration and energy are central to good value-based leadership.
